Rep. Alan Grayson U.S. Congressman for Florida's 9th District

A picture is worth 1000 words. So let me show you two of them. On the left, our trade balance between 1962 and 1992, before so-called "free trade agreements." And on the right, our trade balance since then:

U.S. Trade

Alan Grayson Against TPPWhat sane person could look at these two charts, and conclude that what America needs is more "free trade"?

We have run a trade deficit of at least $350,000,000,000 {350 billion dollars} every single year since 2000, with no end in sight. The result is that we have gutted the U.S. manufacturing base, and run up enormous debt to foreigners, almost $6 trillion dollars ($6,000,000,000,000) in U.S. Treasury debt alone.

We buy their goods, putting their workers to work. They buy our assets, driving us deeper and deeper into debt.

The real issue is not whether to sign new "free trade" giveaways and sell-outs. The real issue is how to curtail runaway U.S. trade deficits, and mountainous U.S. foreign debt. The real issue is how we put our workers back to work, heal our economy, and heal our nation.

Courage,
Rep. Alan Grayson

Alan Grayson was born in the Bronx, New York City, New York. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science in 1975. Grayson worked his way through Harvard College as a janitor and nightwatchman, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts summa cum laude degree in economics in 1978. After working two years as an economist, he returned to Harvard for graduate studies. In 1983, he earned a Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Harvard Law School and a Masters of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Additionally, he completed some of the requirements for a PhD in government, the course work and passing the general exams.  Should other members of congress along with the people of our nation learn from Alan Grayson who is educated and has worked as both an economist and lawyer? Only if they want to work in service for our nation and its people. On the subject of economics combined with U.S. trade Alan has been the most outspoken member of congress against TPP. Here is additional information on Alan Grayson that includes bills he has brought before congress to be voted on some of which have passed and become laws. Alan Grayson
